This is a difficult time. The world is riddled with anxiety, fear, and a deadly disease that has radically interrupted the daily life of nearly everything and everyone. So, for the whole month of April, The Porkchop Express presents: THE QUARANTINE STREAM, a 30 day series designed to help shine a light on a film that is worthy of your time and might very well be the distraction you need. In an effort to keep it fresh, we will be alternating between the big three services (Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu) and trying to keep the choices as varied as possible.
For Day Sixteen, revisit a hard-boiled classic, and ask yourself “Do you feel lucky?” Now available on Netflix.
Dirty Harry (1971)
This is a tough movie to watch not only because some of the character and plot choices it makes are horribly dated. This film is so singular and influential that it’s impossible to avoid absorbing a bunch of it through mere cultural osmosis. And, of course, Eastwood has become something of a controversial political figure. Despite all of that, Dirty Harry is still a rewarding piece of pop culture to get into. This is a gorgeous action movie with actual acts. If you’re tired of thrillers feeling like rushed, claustrophobic affairs, then this is a movie to savor.
